Hamilton Island Race Week’s 2023 Notice of Race is out, ‘Merit’ is entered, and half the available places onboard are sold!
One of the world’s most famous yachting events, Hamilton Island Race Week attracts supermaxis and larrikin trailer-sailors alike, with the beauty being that everyone is welcome and every crew has an opportunity to raise the trophy in their division.
The Volvo Ocean 60 ‘Merit’ provides the perfect opportunity for both seasoned sailors and novices to step up for a week’s adventure. Skipper Michael Schwarzel ensures everyone gets the training they need for their position and that each person onboard is assigned a role suited to their fitness and skill.
“Don’t miss this great opportunity to experience yacht racing at its best.” – Phil Killian
Grant Rau summed up his experience on ‘Merit’ during Hamilton Island Race Week:
Hamilton Island Race Week: what to expect
Hamilton Island’s renown for its laid-back-meets-luxury atmosphere, with impeccable service, unbeatable location and the race week vibe that, despite having notched up almost 40 years, has kept its “let’s get at it” energy.
We encourage you to book early if you plan to race onboard ‘Merit’, simply because accommodation on island fills up well ahead of time. Sure, there are a few pipe cots onboard but we reckon you won’t want to take the racing vibe quite that far!
If you’re bringing your significant other, there are plenty of on-shore events to make their holiday unforgettable – click here to take a look at the on-shore event calendar.
Experience sailing in the Whitsundays
While you’ve probably heard of the Great Barrier Reef, Whitehaven Beach and the gorgeous surroundings that are the Whitsundays, you’ve probably never experienced the incredibly blue waters and island scenery while racing on a high-performance racing yacht!
Built for the round the world Volvo Ocean Race, ‘Merit’ was the overall Performance Handicap winner in the 2008 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
And now, regardless of your sailing experience, you can (if you’re quick) book one of the remaining places for the 2023 Hamilton Island Race Week.
See you on the water!
